A group of best sailors of the world has come together at Royal Brighton Yacht Club of Melbourne for the contest of Sail Melbourne International of 2018 to start tomorrow.

Sail Melbourne is held annually and is considered to be the Invited Classes Regatta or premier Olympic of Australia. It takes place in Victoria’s Port Phillip. As a matter of fact, it is the largest regatta of the southern hemisphere that takes place off the beach.

This year’s world-class regatta is also going to feature the Para-sailing Championships of Australia’s inaugural with this year’s World Para-sailing champion. Racing at Sail Melbourne International is going to start from 13th December to 16th December with 375 competition heading from 18 countries.

Being only 2 years away from the Olympic Games of 2020 to be held in Tokyo, the summer sailing of Australia has grabbed the attention of some of the best sailors from Australia offering some of the best conditions for training and competition when it comes to preparing for the Olympic Games.

Mark Turnbull, the event director has remarked that this is a great time for sailing in Melbourne. He says that it is quite exciting to see 370 entries during this Sail Melbourne International. This is a primary event marking the Australian domestic calendar. Sailors planning to take part the Olympics or another distant horizon; this is a great place to start with.

Turnbull has also explained that next summer they are going to be really busy with the Olympic Class World Championships and for 2020, the Sail Melbourne International is going to move on to January, the traditional dates. With consistent funding from SMI along with the assistance of the Victorian State Government, this has become possible. The event will be called Sail Melbourne Summer of Sailing of 2020.
